1) Jason was persecuted for Paul and Silas’ sake. He was an “unsung hero” that helped with the spread of the gospel. Jason was probably the local host and sponsor for Paul and Silas.

1) When they took Jason to the officals, he promised the trouble would cease or his own property and possibly his own life would be taken.

1) Paul and his men went into the temple to signify their purification and to make a sacrifice for each one of them. The Jews accused Paul of teaching doctrines that did not abide by their law and that he was polluting their temple.

1) Paul was bound by chains and the Chief Captain ordered that he be taken to the castle. There he pleaded to speak before the people. Paul was granted permission and Paul gave his defense along with the account of his conversion.

THE DOCTRINE OF PERSECUTION
I. IT IS TO BE EXPECTED AS A RESULT OF FOLLOWING CHRIST
2Ti 3:11 Persecutions, afflictions, which came unto me at Antioch, at Iconium, at Lystra; what persecutions I endured: but out of them all the Lord delivered me.
2Ti 3:12 Yea, and all that will live godly in Christ Jesus shall suffer persecution.
Mat 23:34 Wherefore, behold, I send unto you prophets, and wise men, and scribes: and some of them ye shall kill and crucify; and some of them shall ye scourge in your synagogues, and persecute them from city to city:
Luk 21:12 But before all these, they shall lay their hands on you, and persecute you, delivering you up to the synagogues, and into prisons, being brought before kings and rulers for my name's sake.
Luk 9:21 And he straitly charged them, and commanded them to tell no man that thing;

II. IT IS NOT A PUNISHMENT
Rom 8:35 Who shall separate us from the love of Christ? shall tribulation, or distress, or persecution, or famine, or nakedness, or peril, or sword?
2Co 4:9 Persecuted, but not forsaken; cast down, but not destroyed;
2Co 4:10 Always bearing about in the body the dying of the Lord Jesus, that the life also of Jesus might be made manifest in our body.
2Co 4:11 For we which live are alway delivered unto death for Jesus' sake, that the life also of Jesus might be made manifest in our mortal flesh.
Mat 5:11 Blessed are ye, when men shall revile you, and persecute you, and shall say all manner of evil against you falsely, for my sake.
III. IT IS AN OPPORTUNITY TO GROW CLOSER TO CHRIST
Joh 15:20 Remember the word that I said unto you, The servant is not greater than his lord. If they have persecuted me, they will also persecute you; if they have kept my saying, they will keep yours also.
Php 3:10 That I may know him, and the power of his resurrection, and the fellowship of his sufferings, being made conformable unto his death;
IV. IT IS REASON FOR REJOICING
Act 5:40 And to him they agreed: and when they had called the apostles, and beaten them, they commanded that they should not speak in the name of Jesus, and let them go.
Act 5:41 And they departed from the presence of the council, rejoicing that they were counted worthy to suffer shame for his name.
Act 5:42 And daily in the temple, and in every house, they ceased not to teach and preach Jesus Christ.
Act 16:22 And the multitude rose up together against them: and the magistrates rent off their clothes, and commanded to beat them.
Act 16:23 And when they had laid many stripes upon them, they cast them into prison, charging the jailor to keep them safely:
Act 16:24 Who, having received such a charge, thrust them into the inner prison, and made their feet fast in the stocks.

V. IT IS REWARDED
Rev 2:10 Fear none of those things which thou shalt suffer: behold, the devil shall cast some of you into prison, that ye may be tried; and ye shall have tribulation ten days: be thou faithful unto death, and I will give thee a crown of life.
Mat 5:10 Blessed are they which are persecuted for righteousness' sake: for theirs is the kingdom of heaven.
Mat 5:12 Rejoice, and be exceeding glad: for great is your reward in heaven: for so persecuted they the prophets which were before you.
Mar 10:29 And Jesus answered and said, Verily I say unto you, There is no man that hath left house, or brethren, or sisters, or father, or mother, or wife, or children, or lands, for my sake, and the gospel's,

VI. IT SHOULD NOT BE A DETERRENT TO FAITHFULNESS
1Co 4:12 And labour, working with our own hands: being reviled, we bless; being persecuted, we suffer it:
Mat 13:21 Yet hath he not root in himself, but dureth for a while: for when tribulation or persecution ariseth because of the word, by and by he is offended.
VII. UNWILLINGNESS TO ENDURE IT IS A SIGN OF A FALSE TEACHER
Gal 6:12 As many as desire to make a fair shew in the flesh, they constrain you to be circumcised; only lest they should suffer persecution for the cross of Christ.
VIII. THOSE RESPONSIBLE WILL BE PUNISHED
2Th 1:6 Seeing it is a righteous thing with God to recompense tribulation to them that trouble you;
Deu 30:7 And the LORD thy God will put all these curses upon thine enemies, and on them that hate thee, which persecuted thee.
IX. IT IS NOT TO BE RETALIATED AGAINST
Mat 5:44 But I say unto you, Love your enemies, bless them that curse you, do good to them that hate you, and pray for them which despitefully use you, and persecute you;
Rom 12:14 Bless them which persecute you: bless, and curse not.
X. IT IS NOT TO BE A DETERRENT TO PEACE AND CHEERFULNESS
Joh 16:33 These things I have spoken unto you, that in me ye might have peace. In the world ye shall have tribulation: but be of good cheer; I have overcome the world.
2Co 7:4 Great is my boldness of speech toward you, great is my glorying of you: I am filled with comfort, I am exceeding joyful in all our tribulation
XI. IT IS TO BE TAUGHT TO CONVERTS
Act 14:22 Confirming the souls of the disciples, and exhorting them to continue in the faith, and that we must through much tribulation enter into the kingdom of God.
XII. IT PRODUCES PATIENCE
Rom 12:12 Rejoicing in hope; patient in tribulation; continuing instant in prayer;
Rom 5:3 And not only so, but we glory in tribulations also: knowing that tribulation worketh patience;
XIII. THOSE PERSECUTED ARE PROMISED COMFORT
2Co 1:4 Who comforteth us in all our tribulation, that we may be able to comfort them which are in any trouble, by the comfort wherewith we ourselves are comforted of God.
XIV. IT IS NOT UNNOTICED
Rev 2:9 I know thy works, and tribulation, and poverty, (but thou art rich) and I know the blasphemy of them which say they are Jews, and are not, but are the synagogue of Satan.
XV. IT IS NOT TO BE FEARED
